The poster was created during a pitch in my last agency for the reopening of an opera in berlin. It was part of a process and never published but I fell in love with the idea and revamped it afterwards.
Don Giovanni is an opera in two acts with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. It was premiered on 29. October 1787. The role of Don Giovanni is described as „a young, arrogant, and sexually promiscuous nobleman, abuses and outrages everyone else in the cast until he encounters something he cannot kill, beat up, dodge, or outwit.“
His character reminds me of a proud rooster that guards the area where his hens are nesting and attacks other roosters that enter his territory. Very manlike and at the same time a beautiful classical look that reflects the time of the eighteenth century with its music and fashion.
It’s still one of the most-perfomed opera. I chose the sans serif typeface Impact, very bold and loud and combined it with the serif typeface Bodoni, first designed in the late eighteenth century in Italy.
